WHO'S THIS GUY ANYWAYS?

Rex is an easygoing and friendly guy who gets along with just about anyone. He's naturally outgoing and enjoys meeting new people. He cares about those around him and is always willing to help, even if it means putting someone else's needs before his own. He's not particularly smart, though. Rex can be slow to understand complicated situations, misses obvious hints, and has a habit of taking people at their word. While he isn't the smartest member of the party, he makes up for it with his kindness and helpfulness.

BACKSTORY

Rex spent most of his life as a farmer. He grew up working the same fields every day, taking care of animals, and living a quiet, honest life. It wasn't a bad life by any means, but after years of doing the same thing, he started feeling like he was missing out on something. At thirty-seven, he decided to leave the farm behind for a while and see what the rest of the world had to offer. Not long after setting out, Rex found himself in an adventuring party. He wasn't the brightest member of the group, but nobody really minded. He worked hard, stayed positive, and would do just about anything for the people he cared about.

His closest friend was a human named Billy. He loved anything that exploded, had no common sense, and somehow always managed to drag the group into trouble. Billy also had a habit of talking about how much he hated elves. Whether Rex genuinely didn't understand what Billy meant or just chose to ignore it, he never realized his friend was actually prejudiced. To Rex, Billy was just Billy.

Everything changed during an expedition aboard a pirate ship. The party was attacked by an enormous megalodon, and it quickly became clear that someone had to do something to keep it from reaching everyone else. Billy lit enough explosives to send both himself and the monster to the bottom of the sea, giving the rest of the party the chance to escape. Then, a few months later, a thirteen-year-old half-elf boy showed up looking for Rex. The kid introduced himself as Billy Jr. and casually explained that Billy was his father. The party was completely blindsided. Billy had never once mentioned having a son, and from what they could piece together, he hadn't exactly been around much as a parent. Billy Jr. said his dad had named Rex as his godfather.

Rex had never planned on raising a kid, and he definitely wasn't qualified for it, but there wasn't much of a decision to make. Billy had trusted him (or maybe just needed someone to dump his kid on) and Rex wasn't about to let his best friend down. These days, adventuring comes with a lot more responsibility than it used to. Rex does his best to be a good dad to Billy Jr. and sometimes doesn't see that he might not be making the smartest choices for his new son. When not out adventuring, Rex goes back home to his farm, where his elvan partner waits for him. Billy Jr. unfortunately has the same ideas his father had about elves, and is searching for a cure to rid him of his half-elf side. Regarding his new other parent, Billy Jr. is "sad to see that his terrible condition has befallen Rex's love, and will strive for a cure even harder".
