ZIGGY AND THE SPIDERS
Ziggy and the Spiders from Mars was the backing band for one of David Bowie's most famous characters, Ziggy Stardust. Ziggy is an alien rock star who comes to Earth from an unknown planet with a message of hope. This story is told throughout the 1972 album "The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars". As Ziggy's fame grows, he becomes a worldwide rock icon. However, the attention, success, and his own growing ego begin to consume him. He loses sight of the message he came to share and is ultimately destroyed by the very fame that made him famus. Although Bowie retired the Ziggy character in 1973, Ziggy Stardust remains one of the most recognizable personas of Bowies characters.

Why I Love Bowie
I began listening to Bowie when I was a freshman in college. I dont remember why or how I got into his music, but it influenced my art a lot at the time, and still does. My mom was a huge fan of Bowie when she was in highschool and college too, so its kind of funny that I ended up being a huge fan of him too. I have the same poster that she had in her college dorm, in mine. Bowie is my favorate english speaking musician, and his style and characters have influenced my own artwork a lot. In Dungeons and Dragons, I play the class of bard. Bards are like jesters or entertainers. I thought a glam rock bard would be cool, and I used lots of outfits and poses from Bowie to bring this character to life in my work.
